HONOLULU, Hawaiʻi — The journey toward bringing the story of Hawaiʻi’s legendary Nisei soldiers to the screen reached an exciting milestone this Memorial Day as THE 100TH, Seeds of Aloha, the upcoming documentary about the 100th Infantry Battalion, held its first public test screening before a capacity audience of more than 600 attendees at the Moanalua Performing Arts Center.
A Test Screening
The event marked the first in a series of test screenings that will help the filmmaking team refine the film, verify historical accuracy, and ensure the highest-quality final production as work continues toward an anticipated completion in early 2027.

Guests were welcomed to a festive evening that began with a red-carpet media wall, providing opportunities for sponsors, supporters, veterans, families, and community members to gather and celebrate this important project. The program opened with welcoming remarks from 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans President Kathi Hayashi, followed by an opening blessing from Rev. David Turner. Acclaimed musicians Harold Payne and David Kopatz provided a special live musical introduction before filmmaker Steve Sue welcomed attendees and introduced the screening.

The enthusiastic audience offered valuable feedback and encouragement, reinforcing the importance of preserving and sharing the legacy of the courageous men of the 100th Infantry Battalion and the generations they inspired. As THE 100TH continues to grow through community feedback and historical review, the overwhelming turnout at this first screening demonstrates the enduring impact of the 100th Infantry Battalion’s legacy and the community’s commitment to ensuring their story is preserved for future generations.
