HONOLULU (KHON2) — Filming for “The 100th, Seeds of Aloha,” a documentary following the legacy of Japanese-American soldiers in World War II, begins on June 7 with an all-day public film shoot from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The shoot will take place at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum’s historic Hangar 79. Members of the public are invited to participate in the shoot, where soldiers of the 100th Infantry Battalion and 442nd Regimental Combat Team will be honored.

The film is the second film in a trilogy surrounding the concept of Aloha Spirit and is done by ID8, a nonprofit based in Honolulu. The company previously produced the award-winning film “Shaka, A Story of Aloha,” which helped inspire the shaka license plates.

Attendees will place medallions for 716 soldiers of both groups who died in the line of duty, as well as medallions for veterans upon their family’s request. Family members will place medallions for their loved ones, but volunteers are asked to place medallions for those who do not have a direct representative.

“For this picture, our cast of a thousand will walk a giant map of Italy, France and Germany as an immersive WWII experience,” said director Steve Sue. “It also provides a backbone for the film upon which we’ll hang many interviews from Hawaiʻi, the continent and abroad in Europe.”

Admission to Hangar 79 will be free for registered attendees. Those interested in attending, whether they volunteer or simply observe, can register at the movie’s website.
