HONOLULU, HI — June 28, 2025 — This past Saturday, the 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans Club (Club 100) gathered for its annual luncheon, a cherished tradition that brings together veterans, their families, and community leaders to honor the legacy of Hawai‘i’s “One Puka Puka.”
This year’s luncheon carried extra meaning as it featured a special presentation by filmmaker Steve Sue, who unveiled the first rough cut of the funding trailer for the upcoming documentary “The 100TH: Seeds of Aloha.” The emotional trailer was underscored by an original composition titled “They Gave Their All,” written and performed by legendary songwriter Harold Payne.
A Surprise Gift for the Future of the Film
In a heartfelt and unexpected moment, Club 100 President Kathi Hayashi took the stage to present a $25,000 check to ID8, the Hawai‘i-based nonprofit producing the film. The donation marks a significant first step in funding this ambitious storytelling project.
“This generous support from Club 100 doesn’t just fund a film,” said filmmaker Steve Sue. “It honors a legacy of sacrifice and aloha—and helps ensure the story of the 100th continues to inspire generations.”
Accelerating the Timeline
Originally planned for a 2027 release, the documentary’s production schedule has now been accelerated to early 2026 to align with Americaʻs 250th Anniversary. The timing provides a powerful opportunity to reflect on the contributions of Americans of Japanese Ancestry soldiers who fought for a country that once questioned their loyalty.
Carrying Forward the Aloha Spirit
The donation from Club 100 is not only a financial boost—it is a strong signal of community belief in the project’s importance. THE 100TH: Seeds of Aloha aims to preserve and share the stories of resilience, unity, and love that defined the 100th Infantry Battalion, all through the lens of Hawai‘i’s unique cultural values.
ID8 extends its deepest mahalo to Club 100, President Kathi Hayashi, the Board and club members for their trust and generosity. With their help, the message of aloha, honor, and heroism is one step closer to reaching screens—and hearts—around the world.
